By now most folks know that it is an undeniable fact that like so many other plants out there in nature, Marijuana has genuine medical value. Several states have made it legal for medicinal use and some for recreational use as well. Back in the 90's, I was on the front lines of the fight to legalize. I worked for Jack Herer who was a great mentor and educator regarding all things Marijuana and Hemp related. As I did the research I was required to do I was stunned at all the different avenues I was lead down as I learned more and realized how little I knew.
One of the avenues I went down that struck me even back then was the rising popularity of pharmaceutical drugs for anxiety and depression. Since the 90's there is a whole new generation of people who pride themselves on the number of diagnosed disorders they have. They'll have lengthy and often competitive conversations about their meds.
Being sick is the cool, hip thing to be and the more meds you're on the cooler you are, especially if you can say you've been on them since you were a child and it was your parents and doctors that got you addicted in the first place. Saying that gets you another disorder and possibly two or three new 'scripts.
Pharmaceutical drugs are a band aid, if that. When I was studying Traditional Chinese Medicine one of my teachers likened human health to a tree. In a nutshell, his point was that western medicine is designed to treat the branches, the outlying symptoms, and it is very good for that. Meanwhile, natural medicine treats and tonifies the root system, so while it doesn't present as a "magic bullet" fix, like western meds, taken over time the branches won't need band-aids any more.
Western medicine isn't invested in treating the root, they can't make money off of healthy people, especially ones who don't need their moneycines, I mean medicines. They're better off if they keep you just healthy enough but still totally dependent on their drugs and appointments to just feel a tiny bit closer to decent.
Natural medicine wants you to thrive, naturally. The difference between Marijuana and pharmaceuticals in the treatment of anxiety and depression is that Marijuana is honest. Marijuana doesn't pretend to take your troubles away or fix your dis-ease so long as you stay addicted to it. Marijuana just creates a different mindset in the approach one takes to whatever issues one is dealing with.
I'm not here to convince anyone to do anything but if you're still reading this, you're curious. To that end, pretty much anyone living in this world who actually thinks has bouts of depression and that is frequently accompanied by anxiety. If you have considered introducing a new perspective on that, I encourage you to do the research. Include real books and actual life experience as part of the research. You might end up being very glad you did.
Another thing I'm finding out as I do more research and collect more data is that, despite the "happy hippie vibe" people associate with Maryjane, it is a cut-throat business and a dishonest industry. More on that later though.
